DIY : CREATING A SELF PORTRAIT USING ALUMINUM FOIL

Back AGAIN with another DIY Self Portrait Idea!

This is Project No. 2 and for this portrait we’re using none other than ALUMINUM FOIL.

no, not this

You’ll see that aluminum foil ain’t for just wrapping dishes. So without further introduction let’s just get into it.

Creating a Self Portrait using Aluminum Foil

YOU WILL NEED:

  • 1 box of Aluminum Foil
  • Tape
  • Your Phone
  • Sunlight or a Ring light (anyone will work as you just need a good light source)

Got it? Great. Leggo

STEP 1

Take the Aluminum from the box and lightly crumple the Sheets.

This will give it a cool jagged effect and add texture, rather than it just being smooth shiny pieces.

STEP 2

Create your background, this is where you’ll stick up the aluminum foil using tape and cover as much of the the surface as you can.

Be careful when dealing with this because aluminum foil gives off some particles that may irritate your skin (I learnt the hard way lmao)

I used my front door and covered a bit on the right and left of it just incase but I knew I’d be cropping the photo anyway so I didn’t need to cover everywhere.

STEP 3 (optional)

Gather your accessories, if you want you can even cover them with foil to match the theme.

I went for a 70’s disco look so I used a headphone and covered it with aluminum foil.

STEP 4

10 second timer and SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT.

STEP 5

It’s editing time!

For this, you’ll need these two major apps.

Here I did my Basic Color Corrections, picked my filter and cropping you can refer back to the Paper Portrait DIY for exactly what I did. The only thing I did different was change the temperature a bit as it was too warm and I’d rather it be cooler, (basically less orange) that was done using “Temperature” in the White Balance Section.

See below the tools I utilized.

I didn’t do much in Facetune actually, outside of sharpening my Tattoos, Shades Headphones and Earrings with the sharpen tool – I mostly utilized the Glow tool to get the Aluminum a bit more Glossy and the Black & White Tool on the foil to remove the yellow and greens that the aluminum picked up.

Added a little Razzle Dazzle with a little Sparkle and TA DA.

ISSA PORTRAIT.

A vibe right? and I didnt even use the whole box of foil.

Have fun creating and Feel Free to tag me if you do recreate!
